He is a doctor with pancreatic cancer. He still receives treatment after the operation. He has been working hard for 13 months.
Looking for good people in Guangzhou
Civil heroes around Guangzhou
Pancreatic cancer is called the “king” of cancer. The patient’s survival period is very short. It is the only disease with a disease with a incidence of nearly 1:1 and a death toll. In March last year, Wang Lei, deputy director of the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, who devoted his life to fighting against colorectal cancer, was diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer and cancer cells have spread to the liver.
For this “verdict” that is almost the end of life, in the past 13 months, Wang Lei has composed a life answer sheet with his steely will, which has impressed many cancer patients and doctors on the front line: patients undergoing palliative surgery survive for about 7 months, and Wang Lei has been fighting for 13 months; he can no longer eat independently after the operation, and two months after the operation, he still treated the patients, and stood at the US Clinical Cancer Conference with a weak body, explaining to nearly 10,000 tumor experts from around the world that the only colorectal cancer report in the digestive tract from China…
Komiks Cancerous cells did not let go. At present, cancer cells have been found to have made a comeback. At such a time of life and death, Wang Lei recently accepted an interview with a reporter and disclosed his mental journey. He admitted that before he really fell down, the meaning of living every day still needs to be dominated by himself.

Panitary cancer was found during a physical examination for long-term back pain
At the end of March 2018, Wang Lei, who often felt back pain and colds for a long time, found that the tumor marker CEA was abnormally increased during the physical examination of hospital staff. This expert who has been engaged in gastrointestinal tumor research for a long time immediately had a bad premonition. Further systemic examination found that pancreatic cancer, in the advanced stage, cancer cells had spread to the liver.
This year, he was only 49 years old, and his clinical, scientific research, and hospital management were doing well, witnessing the successful arrival of Zhongshan Sixth Hospital since its inception. The innovative achievements of radioactive enteritis are being promoted, but at this critical moment, they are facing a “joke” of fate.
When he returned home that night, Wang Lei held his wife’s hand tightly, and a bottomless abyss seemed to appear in front of him, and a sense of powerlessness spread across the iron man.
On April 1, 2018, after lying in the operating room for more than ten hours, Wang Lei’s spleen, 80% of the pancreas, most of the stomach and nerves controlling the intestine were removed on a large scale. Although he woke up successfully through the operation, his new life that he had never experienced in fifty years was waiting for him: he lost the ability to eat independently and needed nutritional needles to maintain his life. A slight temperature change would directly disrupt the body’s temperature control and regulation system. His body, which has always been as strong as a cow, suddenly became weak. “I might not be able to prolong the length of my life, but I can dominate the thickness of my life.” When I was young, I thought about the way of living, and Wang Lei had a clear understanding of himself: I would rather burn for three years than just spend thirty years.
So, two months after the operation, he dragged his weak body and fought against the raging cancer cells in his body at any time and anywhere. Wang Lei reappeared in the clinic and scientific research conference rooms. He even went to the review table for innovative treatment of radioactive enteritis and further went international.
In the past 13 months, Wang Lei’s life has been accelerating:
Two months after the operation, he lie down on the hospital bed for ten hours to store his physical strength. He went to the 53rd Chicago American Clinical Oncology Conference. As a member of the creative team, he gave the only oral report from China in the field of gastrointestinal tract to nearly 10,000 experts and scholars from the world’s frontier tumors. This controlled study on neoadjuvant treatment of local advanced rectal cancer has a high level of attention for advanced rectals in countries around the world. The guide to treating cancer is of great value; he was still in the rescue of oxygen the night before, and the next day he appeared at the preliminary review meeting of the Guangdong Science and Technology Award as usual, explaining to the review experts the research results of innovative treatment of radiation Komiks enteritis. This result was finally awarded the first prize of the Guangdong Science and Technology Progress Award in Guangdong. This year, he took the lead in the countryMore than 30 experts jointly formulated and published the “China Expert Consensus on Diagnosis and Treatment of Radioprotic Techniques (2018)”;
Having the role of patients and doctors of advanced cancer, he reappeared in the clinic to give more psychological comfort to those on the road to anti-cancer; at medical seminars every Wednesday afternoon, he often saw him attending the meeting while taking out some drips. Babaylan
Wang Lei dragged his sick body to practice the ideal of medicine instantly touched many doctors. Many of his medical students moved forward silently for this, working with the teacher to promote the scientific research on radioactive enteritis and practice the ideal of doctors.
Cinema Being a doctor who can change the fate of patients
Returned from the American postdoctoral research, Wang Lei and more than 30 colleagues came to Tianhe District in 2007, stationed in a simple three- or four-story building, becoming one of the pioneering cattle in the founding of the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. Komiks
”I love surgery. As soon as I go to the operating table, I love scientific research more, and life is full of mysteries. There are so many places to innovate in surgical medicine. These subtle changes can directly affect people’s destiny.” Wang Lei said emotionally. Sitting aside and holding her husband’s hand tightly, the wife said that her husband’s persistence and passion for medicine had almost reached the state of “being possessed”.
This decades of dedication has made Wang Lei truly a doctor who can change the fate of patients. He and his teacher, Wang Jianping, the first president of Zhongshan Sixth Hospital, executive vice president of Sun Yat-sen University, and academician of the Royal Academy of Surgery in England, determined the new standard for anal protection surgery for rectal cancer with anal protection of 2 cm from the tooth line, and wrote it into the seventh edition of the national unified textbook “Surgery”; the sexual function protection surgical technology they established has reduced the incidence of sexual dysfunction after rectal cancer from 70% to 15%; the treatment of patients with middle and late stage rectal cancer is generally referred to the US NCCNBabaylan guidelines, and first undergo synchronous preoperative chemotherapy and then undergo surgical resection to create a simple neoadjuvant chemotherapy plan. After the operation, many patients are prone to radioactive damage and have poor quality of life. They have successfully established a new preoperative “simple and full-quantitative chemotherapy” and radiotherapy treatment plan. The US NCThe CN guide cited this research finding.
For patients who have received radiotherapy, Professor Wang Lei established a unique surgical procedure – proximal enlarged resection of rectal cancer, and named it “Tianhe Surgery” after Tianhe District where Zhongshan Sixth Hospital is located. Tianhe surgery reduces the incidence of anastomosis-related complications, reduces the chance of anastomosis fistula in patients, and improves survival dignity. In order to further improve the quality of postoperative survival of cancer patients, Wang Lei Komiks has focused his research on relatively unpopular radioactive enteritis. The incidence of radioactive enteritis in pelvic radiotherapy is as high as about 20%. Hemorrhagic radioprotic inflammation in Komiks is coming fiercely and recursively. The patients are suffering and very painful. A small number of patients are in pain and end up committing suicide at one point. Wang Lei’s team summarized the classification treatment plan for hemorrhagic radioactive enteritis (i.e., three technologies for the treatment of radioactive enteritis Cinema) to solve problems for these suffering patients.
Make Cinema every day is meaningful
On the day when he agreed to accept the interview, Wang Lei’s physical condition was not ideal. Just a few hours before the interview, he felt that his physical condition was in a bad state while lying in bed storing energy. He clearly felt that the body’s temperature control system could no longer be adjusted independently, and he was asleep on the hospital bed with a fever.
After listening to her husband’s story with tears in her eyes, the wife beside her admitted that it was not easy to say these experiences, “We don’t want to be celebrities who are paid attention to.” However, Wang Lei, who is a doctor and treats cancer patients all his life, thought that this experience might give the same cancer patients a positive meaning, he still chose to struggle from the hospital bed and told it for more than two hours in the case of a fever.
Why are you a patient with advanced cancer and still have to work so hard? “If a person is unacceptable to what is about to happen, it will only make himself and the people around him very painful.” Wang Lei said that life is like a journey, and he is ready to make that offer.Passengers who got off the bus a little earlier may face a bad result in the end, but before they really fall, they still have to be the masters of their own destiny and make every day meaningful.
